Wine Enthusiast 92 points - This historic producer’s flagship blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul offers scents of wild honey and lemon custard. The flavors walk proudly between those elements and a citrus peel bitterness, woven amidst the freshness of seltzer and morning dew.  (Feb 2015)

Wine Spectator 89 points - Offers ripe peach, green apple and nectarine flavors, with succulent acidity, a supple body and pretty white flower, mineral, chamomile and orange zest details on the finish. Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul Blanc. Drink now. 2,365 cases made.-MW  (Mar 31 2015)

Vinous 92 points - Bright straw color. Fresh quince, pear skin and quinine on the intensely perfumed nose. Dry and chewy on the palate, offering bitter citrus and orchard fruit flavors that flesh out with aeration. Closes on a stony note, with very strong persistence and a hint of chamomile.  (Sep 2015)

Wine Advocate 91 points - Incorporating more Roussanne in 2012, the 2012 Esprit Blanc de Tablas checks in as 75% Roussanne, 20% Grenache Blanc and 5% Picpoul Blanc, all of which was brought up in larger foudre. Light gold in color, it has a classic Roussanne pear, lemon curd, honeysuckle and white flower-like qualities to go with a medium-bodied, seamless profile on the palate. Starting out lively and fresh, it gains in stature and depth with time in the glass, so a decant is recommended if drinking soon. I’d drink bottles over the coming 2-3 years, but it will have at least a decade of evolution. (Aug 2014)

Wine maker notes
The Tablas Creek Vineyard Esprit de Tablas Blanc* is a blend of three estate-grown varietals, propagated from budwood cuttings from the Chateau de Beaucastel estate. Roussanne provides the core richness, minerality, and flavors of honey and spice, while Grenache Blanc adds green apple and anise flavors, a lush mouthfeel and bright acids. Picpoul Blanc completes the blend, adding a saline minerality and tropical notes.

Tablas Creek is the realization of the combined efforts of two of the international wine community’s leading families, the Perrin family, proprietors of Chateau de Beaucastel, and Robert Haas, founder of Vineyard Brands. They had since the 1970s believed the California climate to be ideal for planting Rhone varietal grapes. In 1987, they began the lengthy process of creating a Chateauneuf-du-Pape style vineyard from scratch in the New World. The Tablas Creek Vineyard Partnership was born, with the Perrin and Haas families as majority partners, and French and American wine loving friends as minority partners.
