Very exuberant, lively nose leading to a tightly wound palate with energy and
verve. The absence of oak further highlights the citrus, cut grass and spice characters of the varietals. We were careful to harvest the grapes while the acids were still bright, giving a lovely clean finish. Hard not to have another glass!
They say curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back. And indeed our quest for fine-tuned Semillon nearly did us in until we stumbled upon a mature vineyard in Knights Valley. The fruit had the energy and snap we were looking for, and paired wonderfully with the small parcel of Sauvignon Blanc we sourced from the banks of the Russian River. It’s had us grinning ever since!
| Wine maker notes |
| Not much to do on this one (just ask our winemaker!) – although it keeps him up at night as much as the others due to our efforts to retain the fresh, vivacious characters of the two grape varieties. We pick the fruit in the early dawn before gently crushing and fermenting the juice in stainless steel tanks. A portion of the fruit is given extended time on its yeast lees which provides a generous texture. |
