Wine Advocate 89 points - Distinctly smoky, the 2013 Punto Final Malbec Reserva made me think of a Syrah from the Northern Rhone with those bacon and tar aromas, quite unusual in a Malbec. Yes, the violets are common to both grapes, but other aromas might be assigned by the elevage (10 months in 50% new French oak barrels) that give it a very commercial profile. The palate show grainy, abundant tannins and moderate acidity. 160,000 bottles.
The grapes for the Reserva Malbec are sourced primarily from the higher altitude vineyard sites and from vineyards producing yields of only 2.7 tons per acre. The wine’s time spent in French oak during aging provides accentuated balance and flavor elegance.
