Over the past four decades the Napa Valley has expanded it’s reputation for making world class Cabernet Sauvignon. As historic vineyard properties change hands from families who purchased the land early in the 1900’s, new owners are almost financially bound to pull up the old vines and plant the Cabernet Sauvignon that Napa is famous for. The low yields of the old vines cannot generate enough revenue to cover the cost of buying the best, and most expensive vineyard land on earth.
The result, Napa Valley, which only grows 4% of the wine grapes in California, dedicates only 4% of its vineyards to growing Zinfandel.
The foundation is built from dry farmed old vine Zinfandel planted on Saint George rootstock in Calistoga’s rich volcanic valley floor. The heat of the day in the upper valley drives the development of dark, rich traditional Zinfandel berryness. To intensify the Zinfandel’s natural fruitiness and add a balance of bright acidity we blend old vine Zinfandel from the higher elevation Chiles Valley appellation. This accentuates the deep Calistoga brambleberry jamminess and amplifies the wines electric mouthwatering acidic backbone.
Zinfandel, known as California’s grape, delivers the flavor of a place like no other variety. When that place is the world famous Napa Valley, be prepared to encounter a wine experience as rare and special as an Old Vine Napa Zinfandel vineyard.
T-Vine was founded in 1992 with a passion for making small lots of big juicy wines – specializing in old vines: Grenache, Zinfandel and Petite Sirah.
In 2009, a partnership by three friends and fellow vintners – Jim Regusci, Chuck Easley and James Harder – was formed to acquire T-Vine Cellars with the goal of carrying on the T-Vine traditions and enhancing and adding a few interesting grape/vineyard sources for the winemaking team.
T-Vine was always founded on the principle that when people enjoy these wines, we want them to think that they jumped into a blackberry tangle on a bright summers day. The wines should be big, juicy, balanced and brimming with fruit. That has always been the goal from day one and will continue to be what you can expect from T-Vine wines as long as we are lucky enough to steward the beautiful grapes that come our way.
