Buy Tablas Creek Vineyard Esprit de Tablas Rouge
Wine Advocate 92 points - The only 2011 reviewed here, the 2011 Esprit de Tablas is meaty, earthy and chewy, with its Mourvedre component front and center. Made from 40% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Counoise, it offers up notions of black fruits, peppered meats, earth and leather to go with a medium to full-bodied, juicy, and focused profile on the palate. Showing good, not great, levels of concentration, as well as plenty of integrated tannin, this is a much more streamlined vintage for this cuvee. It will be better in another year, and drink nicely through 2023.  (Aug 2014)

Wine maker notes
The Tablas Creek Vineyard Esprit de Tablas* is a blend of four estate-grown varietals, propagated from budwood cuttings from the Chateau de Beaucastel estate. The wine is based on the dark red fruit, earth, spice and mid-palate richness of Mourvedre, with additions of Grenache for forward fruit, approachability and lushness, Syrah for mineral, aromatics, and back-palate tannins, and Counoise for brambly spice and acidity.

Tablas Creek is the realization of the combined efforts of two of the international wine community’s leading families, the Perrin family, proprietors of Chateau de Beaucastel, and Robert Haas, founder of Vineyard Brands. They had since the 1970s believed the California climate to be ideal for planting Rhone varietal grapes. In 1987, they began the lengthy process of creating a Chateauneuf-du-Pape style vineyard from scratch in the New World. The Tablas Creek Vineyard Partnership was born, with the Perrin and Haas families as majority partners, and French and American wine loving friends as minority partners.
