Wine Advocate 88 points - The 2010 Chianti Classico Riserva di Fizzano also sees small percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot at the back of bright Sangiovese. This expression delivers extra weight and concentration with savory notes of dark spice, tobacco, wet earth, pressed violets and forest berry. Oak renderings add to the wine’s powerful finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. (Aug 2013)
Wine Spectator 92 points - An elegant version, with cherry, raspberry and floral flavors supported by refined tannins. This is harmonious and long, with a mouthwatering finish. Best from 2015 through 2025.—B.S. (Nov 13 2013)
Produced with grapes exclusively from the Fizzano vineyard, the property of Rocca delle Macie.
|Wine maker notes
|The grapes destined for the Riserva di Fizzano are carefully selected at the optimum moment of the vintage and the vinification of this riserva only happens in exceptional years. After the traditional fermentation the wine is matured in French oak barrels for over two years, then bottled and refined for almost a year before being released.
|Serve at a temperature of 65° 68° F. This bottle should be opened in advance and allowed to breathe, or preferably, decanted. It is a wine to be classified as "de meditazione”, and particularly compliments red meat, roast and game dishes.
