By tasting Montalcour Cotes du Rhone, our cuvee prestige, you’ll discover a balanced, supple and full-bodied wine, with its elegantly brilliant ruby red colour, and bouquet of intense red fruit aromas. Montalcour is produced by blending two grape varietals: Syrah andGrenache and Cinsault. This wine should be drunk young, served at 14-16°C (57-61°F).
As a frontier, river route or European gate to the Mediterranean, the Rhone has flowed through time to produce a valley of exceptional landscapes. The new products introduced by the conquerors quickly prospered on the territory, including wheat and of course grapevines.
Thus, winemakers have been present for more than two thousand years between the Vienne and Avignon regions, giving us a wide range of supple wines with a pronounced character.
The combination of grape varietals, diversity of regions, climate, rich and sun-drenched soils all contributed to making Cotes du Rhone wines a Controled Origin Appellation in 1937. Among the large French AOC winemaking regions, this is one of the leaders in terms of both volume and production.
Thus, we distinguish between Northern Cotes du Rhone, characterised by strong wines with a dark colour and surprising taste, and Southern Cotes du Rhone, located further upstream in the Rhone - Alpes region, with more supple wines and intense aromas.
