Vinous 92 points - The 2011 Clos de Vougeot boasts serious density and roundness. The finesse of the tannin is especially remarkable. This is an especially sweet, round and inviting Clos Vougeot that stands out for its exceptional balance . Sweet, floral notes add elegance on the finish. 92-94 Points  (Mar 2014)

Wine Spectator 90 points - Smoky, bacon fat notes cover the latent cherry, clove and nutmeg flavors in this muscular red. Dense and compact, especially on the finish, which is more savory than fruity. Best from 2017 through 2026. 80 cases imported.-BS  (Jun 15 2014)

Wine Advocate 89 points - Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. There is more vigor adorning Etienne Grivot’s Clos Vougeot 2011 compared to its peers: bright red cherries and bergamot scents, a hint of tea leaf and sous-bois. The palate is herbaceous on the entry with some stem addition, but it displays decent weight and length plus an attractive peppery aftertaste. This is a fine Clos Vougeot in what appeared to be a difficult vintage for the clos. (Nov 2014)

Wine maker notes
Acquired in 1919 by my grandfather Gaston Grivot. Average vine age 40 years. Low yields, top quality. Described in 1855 by Jullien in Topographie de tous les vignobles connus « as ressembling Chambertin and Richebourg : with a fine colour, lots of liveliness and richness, finesse, perfect flavours and in particular a suave bouquet. »The famous Dr Morelot said that « Clos de Vougeot, Romanee, Chambertin and some others are the best wines in the Cote d’Or and maybe the best in France ».Our Clos de Vougeot is a full, powerful wine which is sometimes a little rough. It is robust when young and needs to be given time to mature and develop finesse and elegance. Usually needs 10 years to open. When it is mature it is a generous, velvety wine, full of truffles and scents of violets.
