A harmonious and crisp red with notes of wild strawberry, cherry and blueberry that are deftly integrated with juicy and firm tannins on the complex and layered finish.
Wine Advocate 88 points - The 2011 Il Chiuso is an extremely floral and feminine expression with blue flower, wet earth and almond marzipan. A general feeling of elegance reinforces the streamlined mouthfeel. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2018.  (Aug 2013)

Wine Spectator 88 points - This red shows good depth to its flavors of cherry, raspberry and light black pepper. Fresh and harmonious, the wine displays a moderate structure and finish. Sangiovese and Pinot Noir. Drink now through 2017. 300 cases imported. –BS  (Aug 31 2013)

Technical notes
First released in 2009, Il Chiuso is a blend of Sangiovese and Pinot Noir. The Pinot Noir was harvested from a 10 acre parcel of 27 year old vines located in the San Lorenzo Valley while the Sangiovese was picked from younger estate vines. Each varietal was hand-picked and destemmed and vinified separately in stainless steel tanks with regular pump overs. After 20 days of maceration, the wines were racked into neutral barriques for fermentation and aging. After blending, the wine was returned to barrel for six months.

Founded in 1972, Castello di Ama is one of Tuscany’s preeminent estates. Situated at 1,574 feet above sea level near Gaiole-in-Chianti, this 617 acre estate is blessed with superior terroir which produces wines of finesse and elegance. Owned by the husband and wife Marco Pallanti and Lorenza Sebasti since 1982, the couple has successfully steered the estate through major renovations and improvements including a total replanting between 1982-1987, a dramatic increase in plant density to 5000/hectare, the introduction of French varieties and a major upgrade of winemaking equipment. In 2003 Marco was named Oenologist of the Year by Vini d’Italia and the couple continues to build upon their reputation for crafting benchmark Chiantis.
