Wine Spectator 90 points - Bright, with a big kirsch note at the core, lined with cherry paste, pepper, tobacco and warm brick accents. Shows a briary edge on the finish, with a hint of blood orange chiming in. Best from 2015 through 2025. -JM  (Nov 30 2013)

Vinous 92 points - Brilliant ruby-red. Spicy red berry preserve and floral aromas are complemented by white pepper and smoky minerals. Fresh raspberry, cherry and candied lavender on the palate, with tangy acidity adding lift. Elegant, precise Chateauneuf with excellent finishing clarity and intense floral persistence.  (Jan 2014)

Wine Advocate 94 points - While there was no Cuvee Centenaire produced, Brunel’s 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape is certainly one of the stars of the vintage. A blend of 70% Grenache, 17% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah and 3% Cinsault, with the Syrah aged in older barrel and everything else in tank, it offers a gorgeously youthful profile with notions of sweet kirsch, seaweed, licorice and hints of truffle all soaring from the glass. Fresh and vibrant, with a core of sweet fruit that’s balanced by building richness and ample structure, it is medium to full-bodied, layered and has a great finish. Drinking nicely now, it can be consumed anytime over the coming 5-7 years. (Feb 2014)

Wine maker notes
Les Cailloux Rouge has become the standard to which others are compared with its high-toned surmaturite (very-ripe) nose of sweet cherry-raspberry jam, hints of stewed fruits and sweet herbs. This wine is deep and chewy with plenty of ripe tannins and layers of seductive fruit. The finish is extremely long and concentrated.
