It has a deep ruby color and a pretty bouquet of violet, cherry and licorice. Velvety and structured tannins frame flavors of ripe red fruit, earth and hints of sweet spice and graphite.
Founded in 1910, Sogrape is a large, well-regarded Argentinean wine producer with estates in Barrancas and Maipu. The Barrancas vineyard is located north of Mendoza in the heart of the town of Tupungato and the Maipu vineyard is situated in Mendoza. The soils in the Maipu vineyards are mostly sand while the Barrancas vineyards are planted to clay and stony soils.
The wines are made from estate grapes harvested from two high-altitude vineyards; the Tupungato grapes grown at 3608 feet give the wine finesse, length, and complexity. The Barrancas grapes grown at 2296 feet, give the wine depth and body. Caballero de la Cepa was the first wine in Argentina to label a wine by its specific grape varietal.
Winemaker German Berra joined the team in 2007 after working for Grupo Penaflor and Kendall Jackson. He has a Masters degree in Viticulture and Oenology from the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo and LEcole de Montpellier and has worked fifteen harvests in the USA, France and Argentina.
