Wine Advocate 91 points - The 2012 Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard comes across like a Meursault premier cru. Production was much higher with this 2012, but you would never know it since the vineyard was thinned, and Tor dialed back on the oak component, giving the fruit more of a spotlight in the wine?s personality. Light gold-colored with plenty of honeysuckle, tropical fruit and a buttery undertone, this full-bodied Chardonnay possesses good acidity as well as freshness. (Oct 2013)
Lee Hudson is a meticulous farmer with a great piece of land. He has the advantage of location, location, and rocky well-drained soils. Over the decades, Lee nurtured his vineyard, continuingly fine-tuning his art, using heritage shot cluster clones, such as old Wente, and propagating his own selections from these shy bearing clones. As vines were replaced over these years, Lee replaced them with plant material proven to make exceptional Chardonnays from Hudson Vineyard. Our block is one of the rockiest in the vineyard, a proven site with proven vines, in a great site for Chardonnay.
