A ruby robe with flashes of violet.
The complex, aromatic bouquet boasts rich aromas of red and dark fruits (blackberry, blackcurrant, cherry and redcurrant) blended with toasted notes supplied by the oak barrels.
Supple and well-balanced on the palate, complementing the intense aromas of the bouquet.
Gerard Bertrand, owner of several notable winemaking estates in the South of France, is a passionate advocate of the Mediterranean art of living. The Grands Terroirs range gives wine-lovers the opportunity to discover the regionís unique character.
La Clape is Norbonneís viticultural and botanical heart. This unique terroir, which was once an island during the Roman era, is now part of the Narbonnaise Nature Reserve. Its unique character is largely a result of the loose limestone soil which, combined with a Mediterranean coastal climate, is popular with a wide range of species (orchids, Lesser Kestrels, Eagle Owls…) and produces wines of distinction brimming with freshness and minerality.
|Wine maker notes
|A slow ripening process and a late harvest (end of September to mid-October) are the key ingredients for producing grapes that are ripe, healthy and concentrated and also aids the extraction of colour and aromas during fermentation and maceration. The grapes are harvested by hand when they have reached peak ripeness and transported to the winery in special bins. They are then de-stemmed before being transferred to the stainless steel vats for maceration, lasting 20 to 25 days. The wine is then decanted into barrels for 8 months of ageing.
|From the discovery of the Tautavel man to the Roman hegemony in Narbonne, via the Visigoth occupation and the Cathar heresy, Languedoc-Roussillonís past is steeped in rich history. At the beginning of the 20th Century, a phylloxera epidemic, coupled with overproduction and widespread fraud, wrought havoc for winegrowers, who subsequently decided to revolt. Since the 1950s the wines of the Languedoc have become increasingly refined, and the best estates now produce wines of truly exceptional quality. Gerard Bertrand is determined to drive this progress even further, through continued innovation and by creating internationally-renowned appellations and wines.
