Vinous 91 points - Good dark red. Aromas of black cherry and truffley underbrush. Densely packed but rather powerful, showing an almost liqueur-like ripeness to its flavors of red and darker fruits, minerals and licorice. Very bright and energetic but also noticeably oaky in the early going. Finishes with building, wood-influenced tannins and excellent length. In a somewhat tougher style than the more harmonious 2013 version, and in need of patience.
Wine Advocate 91 points - The 2012 Nuit Saint Georges 1er Cru les Damodes has a touch more fruit intensity than the Clos de Thorey, blacker rather than redder fruit, stony elements developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, grippy tannins - a savory note in the mouth with cured meat infusing the earthy red fruit on the finish. There is plenty of character here and good ageing potential. (Jun 2015)
Wine Spectator 93 points - Floral, berry and spice aromas and flavors signal this elegant, racy red. Tightens up with bound tannins, but the sweet fruit persists on the lingering aftertaste. Best from 2018 through 2033.-B.S. (Apr 8 2015)
"The velvety smoothness of good Burgundy wines, caused by the higher spirits, ensures that their taste touches the tongue softly and is gentle on the nerves”, wrote Dr Guy-Crescent Fagon in 1694. He added "A wine that the stomach can press and digest at leisure, without rushing to get rid of it”. This prescription was addressed to Louis XIV, weighed down by ill health. Nuits wine, recommended by his senior physician, soon cured the royal patient. Wine for convalescence, purely medicinal, had been invented!
|Le Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded in 1999, uniting under a single signature the 91 acres of vineyards owned by the Boisset family. Our vineyards are in 30 different appellations in the Côte d'Or, with two-thirds in the Côte de Nuits and one-third in the Côte de Beaune. Our first vineyard, purchased by Jean-Claude and Claudine Boisset in 1964, is the single vineyard Gevrey-Chambertin "Les Evocelles", and our latest jewel, the Vougeot Premier Cru "Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot" Monopole is part of our 24 acres in the Vougeot appellation. Pierre Vincent, our winemaker, focuses on the pure expression of Burgundian terroir using organic farming and biodynamics, respecting the environment and making truly unique wines. We are proud to announce that 100% of our vineyards are certified organic by Ecocert since the 2007 harvest.
