Buy Capezzana Ghiaie della Furba
Color: Intense ruby red Aroma: Elegant and fruity with intense spice Palate: Firm, full-bodied with dense tannins and well-balanced acidity. Long finish with persistent fruit notes of small wild berries, intense and complex spice.
James Suckling 93 points - Fresh raisins, soy sauce, a layer of cinnamon and a hint of animal on the nose. Well-balanced and showing espresso, strawberry and dark-chocolate-mousse flavors. Polished tannins. Complex. Drink now, but better 2016.  (Oct 2014)

Wine Spectator 91 points - Lush and appealing, with ripe cherry, raspberry and spice flavors draped over an open-knit structure. The tannins are still a bit rough on the finish, but enjoy this over the next few years. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. Drink now through 2020. 1,400 cases made.-BS  (Mar 31 2015)

Vinous 90 points - Black cherry, plum, smoke, grilled herbs and leather meld together in Capezzana’s 2009 Ghiaie della Furba. Soft and voluptuous at first, the 2009 has plenty of structure in support of the fruit. Smoke, tobacco, incense, new leather and toastiness from the French oak linger on the finish. Today, my impression is that the fruit will fade before the tannins soften fully. I imagine the 2009 will offer its best drinking sooner rather than later.  (Oct 2014)

Wine maker notes
Was created in 1979 when Ugo and Vittorio Contini Bonacossi decided to create a wine in Carmignano with a Bordeaux blend of grape varieties . The first vineyard, made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, was situated on the pebbly, alluvial soil of the Furba stream, after which the wine is named. In 1992 the S. Alessandro vineyard (entirely Cabernet Sauvignon) became productive and the wine’s blend of grape varieties was modified. In 1998 we added Syrah grapes. Today the wine is produced from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (30%) and Syrah (10%): Ghiaie della Furba is matured for a year in barriques and laid down for a further 12 months in bottles.
