Wine Spectator 94 points - Plenty of warm earth and loam elements shade the cherry, mint and tar flavors in this savory red. Rich, with well-balanced tannins and lively acidity keeping this fresh. Best from 2018 through 2032. From Italy.-B.S.  (Oct 19 2016)

Wine Advocate 91 points - Perviously labeled as Barolo Marcenasco Conco, the 2012 Barolo Conca offers a good rationale for being made apart as a single-vineyard expression. In a vintage that sees less expressive aromas across the board, this wine shows slightly rounder and plumper characteristics compared to the other two Barolo wines released by Renato Ratti. The quality of fruit is also a bit more approachable, even at this young stage. The bouquet reveals dark cherry, spice and licorice backed by firm tannins and integrated acidity. The results are not as fleshy or dense as 2011, but this wine holds its own.  (Jun 2016)

Wine maker notes
Noble and generous, glory of old Piedmont, a wine suitable for long aging, Barolo is the absolute master of the table. It conquers the palate with the conviction of strength, harmony and fullness and holds its sway at length. The ”Conca dell’Abbazia dell’Annunziata” (The hollow of the Abbey of our Lady of the Annunciation) is one of the oldest sub zones of the entire Barolo District, an area already appreciated by the Benedictine Monks for its particular soil and microclimate. Growing here is the purple red ”Anemone Coronaria” flower, a one-of-a-kind rarity in the entire Langhe region. The Barolo Marcenasco Conca is boldly full-bodied and tannic.

Food pairing
A great wine for important dishes, red meats on the spit or grilled, game, ”grande cuisine” white and red meat dishes and aged cheeses.

In 1965, Renato Ratti bought his first vineyard for the production of Barolo, in the historical zone of Marcenasco, right below the Abbey of L’Annunziata at La Morra. In 1969, his nephew, Massimo Martinelli, joined the company and together, they perfected a technique of vinification, maturation and refinement for their Marcenasco Barolo, with the declared aim of obtaining the elegance, subtlety and longevity worthy of the variety’s full potential. Since then, Renato Ratti has become an important point of reference for Langhe wines and Italian wines in general
