Color: dark, deep, blackish-ruby hue. Bouquet: bold and intense, with black currants, licorice, black pepper and a hint of vanilla. Taste: full-bodied palate with exceptional black fruit intensity and spice. Big structured with well integrated, supple tannins and a long, persistent finish.
Wine Enthusiast 89 points - Aromas of underbrush, blackcurrant, oak and cake spice lead the nose of this blend of Sangiovese and 15% Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate offers dried blackberry accented with oak-driven spices of coconut, vanilla, mocha and cedar alongside assertive tannins. Drink through 2016-2022.  (Sep 2015)

Wine Spectator 92 points - Ripe but reticent, with plum, black cherry, blackberry, mint and wild herb aromas allied to a chunky frame. Firm, chalky tannins carry this red to a lingering finish. Drink now through 2020. 140 cases made. -BS  (Oct 15 2015)

Wine maker notes
St. Ercolano is a single vineyard Vino Nobile produced in only the finest vintages from Carpineto’s Montepulciano Estate. Black currant aromas abound, backed by licorice and black pepper and nuances of vanilla. Full in body with exceptional black fruit flavors and spice. A big, structured wine due to extensive oak aging in new French and American barrels for 12 months followed by 4 years in bottle. The supple tannins are well integrated through the lengthy finish.

Technical notes
85% Sangiovese, 7.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7.5% Merlot

Food pairing
best served with roasts and grilled meats, especially “fiorentina-style” T-Bone steak.

Founded in 1967, Carpineto is a partnership between Giovanni C. Sacchet and Antonio M. Zaccheo, whose original mission was to produce a world-class red wine from the Chianti Classico appellation. This was a radical departure from the marketplace of the times when most Chianti was still produced in the traditional winemaking style. Carpineto’s visionary founders recognized the untapped potential of the Tuscan landscape to produce truly great wines. By applying modern viticulture and winemaking techniques, they dramatically exceeded the quality standards of the day. Under their leadership, Carpineto developed an award winning, international reputation for elegant wines of approachable intensity and extract, as well as consistency vintage after vintage. Today Carpineto has reinforced these characteristics, while maintaining an approachable wine style due in part to an extensive bottle-aging program. In fact ”riserva” wines are bottle-aged a total of six to twelve months longer than the minimum time required by DOCG appellation rules. Today experimentation goes hand in hand with the spirit of innovation of the founders, with respect for historical Tuscan values. The product line includes wines from the most prestigious Tuscan DOCG appellations to varietal specific wines of great structure, as well as innovative proprietary blends. Carpineto exports the majority of its wine production to over 70 countries worldwide. About 95% of Carpineto’s wine production is red wine, with the majority being wines that are aged three or more years before their release date.
