The Bessin family have been producing Chablis for over a century - through four generations, building their reputation on their parcel of the famous Premier Cru La Fourchaume. Jean-Claude and his wife Evelyne have managed the estate in La Chapelle Vaupelteigne, north of Chablis, for the past 20 years. Their efforts are directed toward constant improvement in the vineyards, employing the “lutte raisonnee” to establish a living balance between the soil, the vines and the unpredictable atmosphere. No pesticides are used, plowing between rows encourages deep root systems. Harvest is by hand and whole clusters are pressed pneumatically. Their winemaking is simple - revealing the inherent fruit and typicity of their terroirs, vinifying each vineyard separately (only the oldest vines) in temperature-controlled tanks and in barrel, with no micro-oxygenation, no intervention, no gimmicks!
