Deep ruby red, Tancredi is characterized by a fragrant bouquet with notes of red fruit (mulberry and blueberry) with delicate hints of licorice and sweet tobacco. In the mouth it offers a structure with important and well-integrated tannins. An enveloping and persistent finish.
It will find its best pairing with a T-bone steak, gourmet burgers and game. Delicious also with beef Stroganoff with mushrooms. If served in large, big-bellied goblets it can be uncorked a few minutes before, otherwise a couple of hours earlier; excellent at 18°C (64° F).
Donnafugata's Tancredi is one of Sicily's most popular red wines, and it's easy to see why. The 2016 Tancredi is rich and soft at the same time, with a very pleasing texture that caresses the palate with dark fruit, spice and plum. The wine is mostly a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Nero d'Avola, although some Tannat and other grapes are thrown in. It ages in oak for 14 months. This is a complete effort that boasts thick layering and volume. Some 89,000 bottles were made.
A firm, tight red with dark-berry, stone, walnut-shell and steel character. Medium body and lightly hewn tannins. Better in a year or two. Drink from 2020.
This opens with earthy aromas of darkskinned berry, new leather, cedar and tilled soil. The savory palate delivers black plum, cassis, tobacco and licorice alongside fine-grained tannins. Enjoy through 2025.
